On 30 October 2024, GIC hosted the official launch of the CFA Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Code in Singapore.

More than 100 GICians and external industry guests attended the event at our headquarters in Capital Tower, learning more about the Code and how DEI is applied in the finance and investment sector.

GIC jointly organised the event with the CFA Society Singapore, and was also among the first signatories to the Code.

As a signatory, GIC commits to work on the six DEI Code Core Principles: Pipeline, Talent Acquisition, Promotion and Retention, Leadership, Influence, and Measurement.

These principles are aligned with GIC’s DEI beliefs and ongoing efforts to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.

Peter Goh, Director, Human Resource & Organization Department, who represented GIC to sign the Code, said: “I am proud of the leading role we played in this important milestone for advancing the DEI cause in Singapore’s financial sector. Our firm has scale and a strong brand among our industry peers, and I hope that by backing the Code, we can help encourage others to come along on this DEI journey with us.”

The Code aims to foster commitment from institutions in Singapore to DEI action and champion positive systemic change in the financial services industry, reflecting and addressing challenges that come with demographic, cultural, and societal variations.

The aim is to provide a structured yet harmonised framework for creating impactful and measurable DEI strategies.

By signing this Code, GIC commits to principles including expanding a diverse talent pipeline; implementing inclusive and equitable hiring, onboarding, promotion, and retention practices; and measuring our progress in DEI.

We will also collaborate with other organisations to share DEI best practices and promote DEI within the industry by socialising our progress and journey.

The aims and principles of the Code are aligned with our existing DEI beliefs.

The integration of DEI policies and practices not only fosters a sense of belonging but also enhances creativity, innovation, engagement, and productivity.

This, in turn, helps us attract and retain the best talent, leading to better decision-making and outcomes for GIC.

We also join a global community of nearly 200 financial firms, including Blackrock, Carlyle, Morgan Stanley, Oaktree, PGIM, State Street, and Wellington, within which we can share our thought leadership on DEI and learn from best practices.

Finally, our commitment to the Code reflects our dedication to strengthening Singapore’s social capital.

Deanna Ong, Chief People Officer, said: “GIC is proud to support the launch of the DEI Code Singapore, setting out framework principles designed to drive positive systemic change in the financial services industry. It is consistent with GIC’s commitment to cultivating a diverse talent pool, an equitable workplace, and inclusive workplace practices, which we believe drive superior long-term performance.”
